N4T Investigators: Border Patrol shooting leaves two U.S. citizens injured

SELLS, AZ - A U.S. Border Patrol agent working on the Tohono O'odham Indian Nation opened fire last night after a U.S. citizen tried to ram him with a truck, officials said, Monday.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the incident began about 12:15 a.m., near the San Miguel Gate. The agent was standing outside his marked vehicle when the driver of the truck charged at him.

The agent opened fire, injuring two of the three people in the truck. The agent himself was injured when the truck struck his driver's side door.

The injured tribal members were transported to a local hospital. The agent did not sustain life-threatening injuries and is on paid administrative leave, which is standard in cases where agents fire their weapons.

The tribal members have not yet been charged though FBI spokesman Perryn Collier said the bureau will pursue assault on a federal officer charges agains the driver. The FBI and the Tohono O'odham Tribal Police Department are investigating the incident.
