TUCSON - Millions of dollars are being put in to transform the Tucson Convention Center into a state of the art facility.
The Rio Nuevo Board approved $7.8 million for the renovations.
Rio Nuevo board member Mark Irvin says it is about the fan experience and drawing bigger acts to the center. "All new seating, all new lighting, all new scoreboards, they will be digital scoreboards, and the rest rooms are being redone."
"When they did a show in Phoenix and they are on their way to El Paso or Albuquerque they actually stop in Tucson and do a show as well."
Local businesses like Mexican restaurant El Minuto Café are excited about the new renovations. George Shaar is the co-owner. "I am very happy about it; it is good for everybody, good for downtown."
