TUCSON - Will Monsoon storms finally show up?

Ample moisture once again remains over southern Arizona, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. The latest data indicates a more unstable atmosphere today, leading to scattered thunderstorms east of a Casa Grande-Sells line. Storms should develop early this afternoon and track southeast to northwest before tapering off by midnight.

Some storms could be capable of locally heavy rainfall, putting our exclusive Monsoon Prediction Index at 6 out of 10 for the moderate risk of flooding.

High pressure makes a slow trek from western Texas to northern Arizona beginning tomorrow. This gradually brings slightly drier air in from the northeast, leading to a downward trend in storm development. Friday through next week, isolated hit & miss storms will be possible during the afternoon and evening hours.

Daytime highs the next 7 days range from the mid 90's today to the upper 90's Wednesday. Overnight lows should hold in the mid 70's through next week.
