Mother remembers son found dead in Kansas City freezer

TUCSON - The body of 53-year-old Lawrence Peter Muirhead was found Sunday in a freezer in a Kansas City garage. The Tucson man had been reported missing last year.

Muirhead's mother said she found about the death in Kansas City while she was opening gifts with her grandson, Lawrence's son, for his third birthday in New Mexico.

The family says Muirhead was making a trip from Pennsylvania to Nogales. He was supposed to arrive October 1st. When he didn't the family filed a missing person report.

The family says they are in total shock after hearing the news of his death.

Muirhead's mother, Alke, says she wants to remember her son is a positive way. "He was a terrific guy, a great son to have, very close to his family, a body builder, and a smart guy." said Alke Muirhead.

Police in Kansas City are investigating how Muirhead was killed. His death is classified as a homicide.
