Morning collision traps teen driver under bus stop

TUCSON - Northwest Firefighters used the jaws of life Thursday morning to rescue a woman trapped under a bus stop.

The woman, 18, was driving her Lexus just before 8 a.m. near Ina and La Cholla when she collided with another vehicle, Northwest Fire spokesman Cpt. Adam Goldberg said.

The collision sent her off the road where she crashed into the nearby bus stop, causing the roof to collapse onto the car.

The first crews to arrive on scene stabilized the roof before they sawed off the driver's side door, Goldberg said.

Pima County Sheriffs closed eastbound Ina temporarily during the cleanup and investigation.

Sun Tran has set up a temporary stop just east of the damaged one.
