NOGALES - Nearly 3,300 pounds of marijuana have been discovered, hidden inside cans of jalapeño peppers.
The shipment was on a Freightliner tractor-trailer trying to make it through the Nogales Commercial Port of Entry on Monday, Memorial Day.
A 34-year-old Mexican national was driving the truck when officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection referred him to an additional inspection station.
A drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the presence of the pot, inside more than 2,000 cans.
Officers value the pot at $1.6 million.
