PHOENIX - There's been two stabbings in six months at a nightclub in downtown Scottsdale's entertainment district.
One of them resulted in the death of a former Arizona State University football player, who was working as a bouncer at Martini Ranch.
When the Scottsdale City Council returns from summer break next month, Mayor Jim Lane says action is needed on an updated security ordinance for downtown bars and nightclubs.
Lane says there's a proposed ordinance to require bars, nightclubs and other establishments in Scottsdale to provide a safer environment for patrons.
The Arizona Republic says downtown bar owners, the Arizona Restaurant Association and the Arizona Licensed Beverage Association have weighed in on the proposed ordinance.
Two public outreach meetings are scheduled for July 16 and 24.
