More reactions to Sheriff Dever's death

TUCSON - Condolences and reactions to the death of Sheriff Larry Dever continue to come in from officials around the state.

Sheriff Larry Dever was involved in a one-vehicle accident near the town of Williams on Tuesday, September 18,2012 at approximately 7:00 pm. As a result of this accident, Sheriff Dever was fatally wounded and did not survive. The Coconino County Sheriff's Office is in charge of the investigation.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio ‏(@RealSheriffJoe) tweets:

My condolences go out to the family of Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever. His death is a big loss to the law enforcement community.

State Senator Frank Antenori ‏(@FrankAntenori ) tweets:

It is with great sadness we mourn the loss of Cochise Co. Sheriff Larry Dever. He was a champion of public safety & border security. RIP

Congressional candidate Jonathan Paton released the following statement upon hearing the news of Sheriff Larry Dever's passing:

"I am saddened to hear of the death of my great friend, Sheriff Larry Dever. Sheriff Dever was a respected public servant, committed to ensuring the safety of the citizens of Cochise County and all of Arizona, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with him. Arizona has lost a true hero in the fight against violence at the border and he will be greatly missed. His family is in my prayers.

Sheriff Scott Mascher, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office:

"The men and woman of the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deeply regret the passing of Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever. The Arizona law Enforcement Community has lost a great traditional western lawman and friend. We will sincerely miss his wisdom and experience in dealing with sometimes controversial issues that have faced Arizona Law Enforcement professionals.

"As Yavapai County Sheriff and President of the Arizona Sheriff's Association, I wish to send our heartfelt condolences to Sheriff Devers' wife Nancy and his entire family. I am proud to have served as an Arizona Sheriff alongside such a man of honor, integrity, and devotion to public service."

Clarence W. Dupnik Pima County Sheriff:

"Words are insufficient to describe the tragic loss of Sheriff Dever, not only was he a consonant professional, he was an incredible leader and human being. Arizona and Cochise County have suffered an irreplaceable loss. Larry's sudden and untimely death has left a gaping hole in the hearts of all who have had the privilege of knowing this distinguished lawman. Our heartfelt prayers go out to his family and friends. I am sure his boots will remain unfilled in perpetuity."

Tom Morrissey, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party:

"We are all deeply saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Sheriff Larry Dever. His work in law enforcement and border security were shining examples for all of us, especially for those who saw first-hand how his hard work, integrity, and leadership served the people of Cochise County so well. He was a terrific man and we will miss him. We will keep Nancy and the Dever family in our thoughts and prayers."
