More fire restrictions going into place

PHOENIX (AP) - Officials are imposing fire restrictions on more state and federal lands in Arizona.

The Bureau of Land Management says starting Friday, fire and smoking restrictions will be enforced on public lands within the Kingman, Lake Havasu and Yuma areas. That encompasses more than 8,400 square miles.

BLM officials say the restrictions are similar to those being implemented in other parts of Arizona. That means campfires are off-limits and smoking will be allowed only in vehicles or at developed recreation sites.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department implemented fire restrictions at its wildlife areas on Friday.

State Forester Scott Hunt says Arizona has seen an increase in wildfires in the last few weeks and most have been sparked by people.

Restrictions are also in place on several national forests in Arizona.
