Monument Fire grows to 2,500 acres

SIERRA VISTA - The Monument Fire has grown to about 2,500 acres since it was sparked sometime yesterday - officials say the fire is spreading rapidly, and has destroyed two structures and forced a road closure.

Ash Canyon is closed due to the Monument Fire, and Memorial Road has been close due to a downed power line.

Currently, five crews of firefighters, 13 fire engines, four water tankers, one air tanker, two planes and three helicopters are working to control this fire. Six more fire engines and four water tankers are en route, officials say.

An incident management team will assume command of this fire later today.
