TUCSON - After an active overnight, isolated to scattered storms return this afternoon.
Many locations across Cochise County received over an inch of rain Friday night and monsoon storms will return to kick off the weekend with scattered storms possible this afternoon. The best chance for storms to fire up today will be from Tucson and points east with heavy rain and flash flooding the biggest concern.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect across Southern Arizona through this evening. With 1-2" of rain possible in some of the stronger storms, conditions are favorable for flooding to occur especially for areas that received rain on Friday.
Sunday afternoon will likely be the more active day of the weekend as deep monsoon moisture interacts with an upper level disturbance moving in from Chihuahua Mexico. Some storms may turn severe with damaging wind gusts and the continued threat of heavy flooding rains.
This active monsoon pattern will continue into early next week with scattered storms in the forecast through Tuesday. By the middle of next week slightly drier air moves in for a downturn in monsoon activity.
