TUCSON - The Mistake Peak Fire, which was started Wednesday, August 08 at about 6 p.m., has reached 4,000 acres.
The fire is spreading at an extremely rapid rate and is 10 percent contained. Suppression efforts are challenged by continuous heavy fuel loading, heat related illness, shifting winds, and steep and rugged terrain, Forest Service officials stated in the latest fire update.
Aircraft arrived to help firefighting crews on the ground. The Temporary Flight Restriction has been expanded, and fire road closures are in effect for firefighter and public safety.
The fire is expected to be contained by Thursday, August 30 at approximately 12 a.m.
