TUCSON - Residents have been allowed to return to their homes following a gas leak in the Flowing Wells area this afternoon.
Authorities say a driver hit a gas meter in an alleyway, causing the leak in the 4000 block of North Tuttle, near Roger and Flowing Wells.
Eight homes were evacuated as a precaution, Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Deputy Tom Peine confirmed. All evacuees are back in their homes.
Emergency crews including personnel from Southwest Gas were able to shut the gas off just before 4pm. The leak has since been fixed, Peine stated. Deputies have obtained a description of the vehicle that struck the gas meter, and are searching for a suspect.
