News 4 has confirmed that Meriwest Credit Union is closing both Tucson branches.

According to a spokesperson, like most banks and credit unions, Meriwest has been deeply affected by the economy. They say business consolidation is necessary to better weather the economic storm for the membership as a whole.

News 4 cannot confirm when the Tucson branches will close.
