FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Educators and language activists are meeting in Flagstaff for a conference aimed at better serving American Indian students.
Northern Arizona University is hosting the gathering scheduled Sunday through Tuesday.
Conference organizers say the needs of American Indian students need to be assessed within the social and cultural context that they exist. They say teaching models based on western society aren't the best fit.
Participants will discuss specific course content that can be included in teacher preparation programs.
Other topics include after school programs and language immersion.
