PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake say the immigration bill passed by the Senate will achieve 90 percent control of the U.S.-Mexico border and if that doesn't happen in five years another $2 billion will be poured into the effort.
That's one of the key points the Republicans made during a question and answer session with reporters and members of the public during an event in Mesa Tuesday.
The "Gang of Eight" members pushed their comprehensive immigration reform bill through the Senate earlier this year.
Ariz. Rep. Paul Gosar says their efforts are going nowhere in the GOP-controlled House, but the senators say they're hopeful. Gosar says a bill like the Senate's that includes citizenship for the 11 million people in the U.S. without documentation won't pass.
