MARANA - Spectators at the Accenture Match Play Championship can now carry cell phones with them while on the grounds.
Gerald Goodman, the tournament's executive director said it was just time for the change, "We think our fans here in Southern Arizona are savvy enough to follow a few simple rules. One, is put it on vibrate, silent or turn it off. When a player walks by don't take pictures or any video. Just resist that. But we do have talking areas, areas for you to check your email, or send texts.
Goodman likened cell phones to personal computers and said the tournament could no longer expect fans to not be able to communicate while out at the tournament.
According to Goodman, any violation of the rules in place would be handled by security personnel.
