Maricopa police shoot man who aims gun at officer

MARICOPA, Ariz. (AP) - A man has been shot by police in the City of Maricopa south of Phoenix.

Maricopa police say officers responded to the Homestead community on a report of a man with a gun.

Officers arrived and found a man holding a rifle in front of a residence.

Maricopa police say that when officers ordered the man to put the weapon down, he threatened officers and then raised the rifle in the direction of an officer.

A Maricopa police officer responded with gun fire, striking the armed man.

He was transported to Maricopa County Medical Center in Phoenix and treated for gun shot wounds.

Police said the man is facing multiple felony charges and no officers were injured.
