MARANA - The Marana Police Department is sending extra patrols to busy shopping areas before Christmas.
"We actually want to make sure we're proactive," Sgt. Tim Brunenkant said. "We're out there visible to the shoppers."
Police set up their mobile command post RV in the Target parking lot at Ina and Thornydale Roads. They also put extra patrols around the Cortaro Road shopping areas.
"I feel safe knowing they're close by," Judy Evatt said as she loaded groceries in her car.
Officers hope potential thieves will not commit a crime in the first place because there are so many police in the area.
"I think it's great," Christine Howard said. "I wish they would do it all year long."
The extra patrols did not use any overtime hours.
