LUKEVILLE - A Mesa man is under arrest after trying to smuggle methamphetamines through the Lukeville Port of Entry in an ice chest.
Customs and Border Protection officers held 24-year-old Jose Luis Fuentes-Alvarado for additional inspection of his Chevrolet sedan when he tried to cross the border. During the inspection, officers located more than six pounds of crystal methamphetamine inside the lining of an ice chest partially filled with seafood. The drugs and vehicle were processed for seizure. Fuentes was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
Individuals arrested may be charged by complaint, the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity, which raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
