TUCSON - Oro Valley police are searching for a man wanted for questioning in connection with several burglaries at a self-storage business back in December.
They say several self-storage units at Arizona Self-Storage in the 10,000 block of North Mavinee Drive were broke into on December 28.
More than $60,000 worth of personal items were stolen. The case was turned over to OVDP'S Criminal Investigations Unit, where detectives discovered that two brothers, Elmer and Jack Upchurch, may have been involved.
Because the Upchurchs have ties to local gangs, the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Gang Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission task force, known as GIITEM, was asked to assist.
GIITEM arrested 27-year-old Elmer Upchurch at a local pawnshop. Investigators also learned more stolen property was stashed in the 13000 block of North Lon Adams.
Armed with a search warrant, investigators found a large number of stolen items at that location.
Elmer Upchurch is in custody on unrelated charges, but eventually he'll be charged for felony theft in excess of $20,000, three counts of third degree burglary, and trafficking in stolen property in connection with the storage unit break-ins.
Authorities are still searching for 28-year-old Jim Upchurch. They say he has a history of violence. He's also wanted for another, unrelated crime.
Oro Valley police ask that if you see or know where Jim Upchurch is, you call 911 or 88-CRIME.
