PHOENIX (AP) - A man wanted in connection with a shooting earlier this week was shot and killed by Phoenix police after he pointed a gun at officers.
Sgt. Steve Martos says the shooting happened after officers responded to a call about a suspicious person near Indian School Road and 79th Avenue just after midnight Saturday.
Police spotted a man and woman leaving the area in a cab. The man was recognized as Jonathan Pimentel, who was being sought in connection with the shooting of his girlfriend during a domestic fight.
Martos says it appeared that Pimentel reached for something in his waistband as he sat in the backseat. When he got out, he turned toward officers, ignored their commands and pointed a gun at them.
One of the officers and the patrol sergeant shot and killed Pimentel.
