TUCSON - A man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon during a traffic stop near Prince and Oracle.
Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Peine said that the incident began at about 5:21pm when Deputy Nicholas Norris pulled the suspect over.
Officials say the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at Norris-- that's when Norris shot the suspect.
"The individual produced the weapon, pointed it at the deputy, and the deputy's reaction was that he acted in self defense," Peine said.
When first responders arrived on scene, the suspect was transported to The University of Arizona Medical Center where was later declared dead.
The suspect's name has not been identified.
As part of protocol, Norris has been put on administrative leave. He has been with PCSD since 2004.
