Tucson - The Pima County Sheriff's Department has identified the driver shot and killed by a deputy Friday night.
Investigators say 23-year-old Vladimir Cardenas was wanted on a misdemeanor arrest warrant out of the Tucson Police Department.
He's been in trouble with the law before.
Cardenas was arrested in 2009 for possessing drugs.
On Friday, Deputy Nicholas Norris stopped him in the area of Oracle and Prince.
During the traffic stop, investigators say Cardenas pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Norris.
Deputy Norris shot him in self defense.
Cardenas died at the hospital.
Investigators found different types of drugs and drug paraphernalia along with some weapons after searching Cardenas' car.
Norris has been placed on administrative leave.
