Man killed in construction accident at Arizona mine

YAVAPAI COUNTY, ARIZ. - A 30-year-old Many Farms, Arizona man was killed during a construction accident at Bagdad Mine.

Thursday afternoon, Alvin Thomas was part of a crew putting a row of large pipes together when one of the pipes came loose, hitting Thomas in the back of the head.

The pipe section was about 40 feet long and weighed more than 5,000 pounds.

Thomas was a contract worker with the Freeport-McMoran Copper and Gold Mine in Bagdad.

The Arizona State Mine Inspector's Office is investigating.
