TUCSON - Alcohol may have been a factor in a collision between a vehicle and a traffic signal pole at Oracle and River early this morning that left one man dead.
Tucson Police officers responded to the north side intersection at 1:39 a.m. Thursday morning to find a car had struck a traffic signal pole. Tucson Fire personnel also responded and transported the driver to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, the news release states. The man, later identified as 38-year-old Hector Valenzuela, died from his injuries at the hospital.
Detectives determined the car was traveling south on Oracle when the driver left the roadway and struck the pole in the southwest corner or Oracle and River Roads. It appears that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, the TPD news release states.
