TUCSON - Tucson police say a man approached 4 teenage boys for sex.
The first happened last Sunday at the Safeway shopping center at Tanque Verde and Sabino Canyon. The other happened Monday near Sahuaro High School. Tucson police arrested 54-year old Barry D. James in connection with those incidents.
Jessica Malcomson says her son was one of the victims. She says the suspect approached him and asked him to perform a sex act. She said her son's response, "My son basically said "expletives" no way he ran away and began calling for help because the man was still following him."
The son flagged down a car driven by a teacher on the way to Sahuaro High School. They called, 911, followed the suspect and wrote down his license plate number.
Malcomson rushed to the school after her son called and said "it's terrifying. It is a parent's worst nightmare."
When she arrived she learned police arrested 54-year-old Barry James. She took her son to identify him. She also got a good look at him and said "he looked like the guy next door."
Malcomson says if she had the opportunity to talk to him she's say, " It's vial, disgusting, and your preying on children and I want you to know what it's like to be preyed upon in prison."
Malcomsom says she's been teaching her sons about stranger danger since they were 4. "You know there are these wicked, nasty people out there who are preying on children and thank god my son knew what to do in that situation but there's a lot of kids who don't."
She's hoping parents will take this opportunity to talk to their children and explain to them what they should do if they are faced with a similar situation.
Barry James remains in the Pima County Jail under a $50,000 bond. He's charged with 4 counts of luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
Tucson police aren't releasing his picture until they complete a photo lineup. They want anyone with information about an older man driving a late model pick-up truck making sexual advances to contact them.
