Lupita Murillo

Lupita Murillo joined the News 4 team in 1978 as a general assignments reporter, specializing in crime reporting. She also hosts the weekly talk show "Impact."

Before coming to Tucson, Lupita worked at KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas - first as a reporter and then as weekend anchor. She can be considered something of a pioneer in her field - working as the first Hispanic female in broadcasting in South Texas, which is a little unusual considering the region is about 85-percent Hispanic.

Born and raised in the South Texas where she attended what is now the University of Texas at Pan American, Lupita graduated with a degree in Mass Communications.

Lupita has earned a lot of recognition for her work over the years, including awards from the Arizona Press Club, United Press International, the Associated Press, and many community organizations. She's also been recognized nationally by the American Women in Radio and Television.

Lupita is very active in the community, giving her time to numerous organizations and charities like Las Familias, the People With AIDS Coalition of Tucson, the Children's Miracle Network Telethon and, the professional organization, Concerned Media Professionals.

She also sits on the Govenor's Violence Against Women's Commission.

In the little free time she has, Lupita enjoys aerobics, reading, baking, and especially spending time with her husband Don Gutzler.
