TUCSON - The local campaign to collect 20,000 turkeys for the Community Food Bank fell short, but it went a long way to helping families in need.
The December 15 turkey drive was conducted by Tucson Appliance Company, Mr. An's Teppan Steak and Sushi and An del Sol, and Casino Del Sol Resort.
Thanks to the generosity of the Tucson community, the drive raised a total of 17,200 pounds of food for the Food Bank.
In a friendly wager between Mr. An and Chris Edwards from Tucson Appliance, Mr. Edwards won.
His store collected the equivalent of 1,292 turkeys. Mr. An's collected the equivalent of 439 turkeys, and Casino Del Sol raised what would equal 112 turkeys.
If Edwards lost, he would have been put to work washing dishes or busing tables at Mr. An's restaurant.
However, since he won, Mr. An will now have to live up to his end of the bet and that is for him to dress up in a turkey costume and stand outside Tucson Appliance, waving to customers.
The date of that event has not yet been announced.
