TUCSON - If you're a cyclist, you know that a long ride will leave your leg muscles feeling fatigued. But have you ever wished you could get an arm workout at the same time? One local rider had a similar thought, and has now patented his arm and leg powered recumbent bike.
Louis Hudgin has worked on creating his bike for over 50 years, and says that while it's had its fair share of challenges, it's extremely easy to ride!
"It takes a little coordination, but I figure if you can chew gum and walk at the same time, you can ride that."
The handlebars not only give you a full body workout, they also add power to recumbent bikes, which generally are a little slower than other bikes. This extra boost helps Hudgins climb those hard to ride hills.
"I've been able to increase the power by 60 percent," he said.
For beginners, the arms can be adjusted for that perfect fit, and the handlebars can also be made to stay in place, so using only your legs is still an option.
