TUCSON - Local retailer Sam Levitz has made a generous contribution to three funds assisting survivors and victims' families affected by the tragedy in Tucson January 8.
Sam Levitz has contributed $12,500, divided between the Christina Taylor Green Memorial Fund, the Gabe Zimmerman Scholarship Fund and the Tragedy in Tucson Victims' Fund.
A release from Levitz thanks Ashley Furniture Industries and Sealy Mattress Company for their contributions to the donation.
The statement also reads:
"As a leading locally owned Tucson business since 1953, we, on behalf of the entire 437 member Sam Levitz Furniture team, extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones whose lives have been forever affected by the tragic event that struck our community last Saturday. Together, we grieve the lost lives of Judge John Roll, Gabe Zimmerman, Dorwan Stoddard, Dorothy Morris, Phyllis Schneck and Christina Taylor Green.
"We gratefully thank the local heroes and the many first responders, doctors and nurses who helped save the lives of those injured by the shooting, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Together we pray for the complete and speedy recovery of Representative Giffords and all of the other injured on Saturday.
"We also thank President Barack Obama and all the local and national dignitaries who joined Tucson in providing such an inspiring memorial service."
