ORO VALLEY - A new season of Biggest Loser started Tuesday night here on KVOA. So are you ready for the challenge? Are you going to do it this year?

There're lots of new choices out there to get a good work out. Cross training classes are the new rage and lots of people are swinging kettle bells.

And there's a boot camp here in the Tucson area where you'll get a good work out and whole lot more. It's all about power and mindfulness.

Before the sun comes up, the sweat pours out at Brown's Boot Camp. About 40 "soldiers" are working out on a tennis court at Riverfront Park in Oro Valley starting at 5:30a.m.

"The world is a lot of suffering. And it's how we deal with it, is what makes us who we are," says Randy Brown who created and owns Brown's Boot Camp.

Brown says he felt powerless ever since he was a little kid. He grew up in a tough neighborhood and had trouble at home. He turned to drugs and alcohol at an early age.

"And by the time I knew it I didn't have any of my own power left. So I was just wondering aimlessly. And I finally found myself and sad but true I had to find myself in prison."

He topped the scales at 275 pounds with 44% body fat.

He was in prison twice. Two and a half years the first time; a 5 year stint the second time. Hard time served for robbery to support his drug habit.

That's when he saw a Buddhist monk on television.

"And the guy sad, "Would you like to alleviate suffering?' Whoa! Let's see what this guy has to say," Brown recalls.

He said he opened up to a new mindset. He started exercising to better himself. Helping others is key to his success. His sessions run about an hour and 15 minutes. Brown leads the group through a series of exercises with very little rest between sets. Each camp meets 3 times a week for 4 weeks.

"I feel that I have to help others in order to help myself. If I don't help others then I feel like I'm missing."

That eastern thought keeps him going.

"So I have to give away what I have, to keep what I have."

His message is simple; if he can do it, you can do it.

However, "Only you can make it happen," Brown says.

His students are seeing results and loving it.

Mindy Garretson was 225 pounds when she started. Now she's one of Randy's instructors and weighs in at about 160 pounds.

"Motivational. Taking your power back. Getting that self esteem back up. I had turned into a hermit."

Stronger bodies and stronger minds.

"It's a lot bigger than jumping jacks and pushups at the park," says Brown.
"You got to do life, or life's gonna do you."

Brown's Boot Camp offers classes all over the county. For more information visit the website by clicking the link below.
