It's news Sue Pitcher is getting used to receiving. She tells News 4, "I've gone to four interviews. I was told, today, that they found someone else for it."
In this "Season of Hope," there remain disappointments. Sue's family of 4 has no employment income, and bills that won't go away. She visits the Tucson Community Food Bank every week. At the non-profit store, Sue says, she saves "$35 a week, easily. Easily."
Sue gets almost everything she needs there. "Chicken, hamburger meat, meatballs, chicken nuggets, bread, eggs. The other day I got a cake mix for 50-cents. That made 24 cupcakes and made the kids real happy."
With demand up 30% at the food bank, organizers are hoping you will donate for the holidays. Bill Carnegie tells News 4, "We will take refrigerated or frozen turkey and hams. If folks want to drop those off, or do a drive for something like that, that would help as well."
KVOA is teaming up with local firefighters, to get your donations to the Tucson Community Food Bank. Through Thanksgiving, you can take any non-perishable food to your nearest fire station.
