NEW YORK (AP) - A lawyer for Joe Halderman says the former news producer is looking for work.

Halderman is out of jail, after serving four months of his six-month term for trying to blackmail David Letterman. He got time off for good behavior. He'll still have to complete 1,000 hours of community service. Halderman admitted demanding $2 million in hush money to keep from revealing personal information about Letterman.

The attempt caused Letterman to admit on his show that he'd had sex with women on his staff. Letterman had married his longtime girlfriend about six months before the extortion attempt.

Even though Halderman no longer has his job at CBS' "48 Hours," he's still up for an Emmy award this month for a story from last year about an American exchange student charged with murder in Italy. He was one of four producers cited for the story.
