PHOENIX (AP) - Police say the woman facing felony murder charges in the death of a Department of Public Safety officer is a repeat offender who recently got out of prison.
Maricopa County Sheriff'S Office spokesman Doug Matteson says 43-year-old Georgia Lynn Baker of Phoenix has been convicted eight times since 2000 on a variety of charges, and served two years in prison beginning in 2005 on a burglary conviction.
She faces the felony murder charges in the death of DPS officer Chris Marano. He was laying down spike strips on a north Phoenix freeway Thursday night to stop the vehicle Baker is accused of driving when he was struck and killed by a patrol car involved in the chase.
Baker was bitten by a police dog during her capture and treated at a hospital before being jailed in Phoenix.
