TUCSON - A state senator is crediting Kristi's Kids and KVOA viewers for a reversal of CPS' plan to eliminate volunteer programs.

News 4 received a letter written by the Department of Economic Security. In it, the agency is "attentive to the need to maximize resources."

The letter also states "The Department also recognizes that an increased growth in the number of children in out of home care coupled with families requiring parenting and visitation services has impacted the capacity of the system."

Kristi's Kids first reported the strain on resources CPS was facing and how tutoring and mentoring program faced elimination.

In the letter, DES blames miscommunication within their agency and now says it "anticipates service levels consistent with the prior year and caseload growth through the remainder of the year. This will allow DES to meet its obligations by providing services to families who need them and will benefit from them."

State Senator Steve Farley released his own statement Friday evening saying "This action is a direct result of Kristi Tedesco and KVOA viewers speaking out on behalf of the children who need us the most."
