TUCSON - We're kicking off a new series of stories at News 4 Tucson. We are going out to the community to find children who do something altruistic for their community. We're featuring these kind kids in Kristi's Kids "Pay it Forward" stories.

First up is Ellie Boling. She is raising money and awareness about hunger.

Ellie loves cooking. She started young. On the day Kristi's Kids stopped by her home, she was whipping up a lemon pasta dish.

It's family fare.

"I really like cooking with my mom, my dad my brother."

Only 12 years-old, Ellie can cook all sorts of things including chicken, fish and steak. She grills veggies with her dad and bakes with her mom.

"My brother likes eating it," Ellie says with a laugh.

Her Bat Mitzvah is in November. For her service project she came up with an idea.

"I think it's important for people to know how to cook and have a meal on their table every day," says Ellie.

So she's putting together a cookbook! Ellie sent the word out to family and friends asking for favorite recipes. Hundreds replied from all over the country.

Bubbie's Chicken Noodle Soup and Pineapple noodle pudding are a couple examples.

She even painted the cover herself. "Kugles and Latkes and Briskets. Oh my! favorite Jewish recipes compiled by: Ellie Boling."

Ellie wants to sell copies for $20. All the proceeds will go to the non-profit Mazon: A Jewish response to hunger.

"We were excited to come up with an idea that married a service project, a Bat Mitzvah project with something she's so passionate about," her Mom says.

And her grandmother's recipes are in the book.

"We have a saying in Judaism. L'dor V'dor. From generation to generation."

Ellie and her family also volunteered at Casa Maria Soup Kitchen and they've already raised $1000 for Mazon.

Here is where the cookbooks can be purchased: Everything is at Congregation Chaverim Main Office 5901 E. 2nd Street, ph- 320-1015, M-F 9-1 and on Sundays from 10-12 and on Monday evenings from 5:30-6:00. They are $20 with all proceeds going to MAZON.
