TUCSON - Swimming pools can be extremely fun and extremely dangerous especially when there's no pool fence to keep children out.
We've teamed up with Pool Guard of Tucson to get more backyard barriers in place.
Carla Flores wins the free fence this month. She has a full house with 4 kids.
Her youngest girl is two and that worries Carla.
"Every time we come outside we have an incident with her."
Carla's tried to save the money and have a fence installed but something else always comes up.
This summer it's her highest priority so she entered the News 4 Tucson Lifesaver's contest. She says there were too many close calls.
"Many! Little kids in her age, the minute they see water they want to go play with the water."
Carla can't enjoy her backyard especially when friends visit.
"And it's just stressful to be able to be with your company and being with the kids at the same time. Especially we have a playground right there."
In comes our partner Pool Guard of Tucson to give Carla the solution she's so desperately needed. Installation took about half a day at a value of about $1,500.
After the self-closing, self-latching gate is installed, this job is done and Carla's backyard is safer. "We're really grateful for it."
Reminder: swimming pools are not the only areas which are dangerous. Last month, we lost a baby girl in a bathtub drowning. Since January six kids have nearly drowned. Whenever there are kids near or in water someone needs to be the water watcher.
