Today, Pima County counted an additional 7,400 votes, tightening the race between Democratic incumbuent Karen Uhlich and Republican challenger Ben Bueler-Garcia. In addition, Nina Trasoff has fallen farther behind, making it almost certain that challenger Steve Kozachik will win the seat on the council.
Currently there are only 3,200 votes in Pima County left to be tallied, and only half of those votes are estimated to contain votes for the City of Tucson.
Uhlich is only 246 votes ahead of Bueler-Garcia, leading 32837 to 32591.
Kozachik is 1,675 votes ahead of Trasoff, leading 35369 to 33694. With 3,200 votes to count, and only half for the City of Tucson, it means Trasoff would have to win nearly every ballot in order to make up the difference.
Kozachik's almost certain win is significant because it is the first time in more than 30 years that a Republican challenger has ousted a Democratic incumbent on the council.
