TUCSON - Pima County Health Inspectors are out on patrol, keeping the eating establishments you dine in safe.
Back on July 31, News 4 Tucson reported that La Parilla Suiza, at 2720 N. Oracle Rd., received eight critical violations and a "Provisional" rating.
During the original inspection, several refrigerated items tested above the maximum 41 degrees, with chicken nuggets at 70 degrees, cheese at 57 degrees and raw beef temped at 59 degrees.
When the inspector returned on August 4, a large refrigeration unit was still not working properly with cheese temped at 53 degrees. As a result the restaurant failed re-inspection. On August 18, La Parilla Suiza was evaluated again. Cheese held in a top drawer in a make unit again temped at 53 degrees leading to a second failed inspection.
Viro's Italian Bakery, at 8301 E. 22nd St., received four critical violations. An employee was observed leaving a bathroom and then putting on sanitized gloves without first washing her hands. Several items stored in a walk-in cooler tested above the maximum 41 degrees with ham at 50 degrees, roast beef at 48 degrees and cheese at 48 degrees. Sliced meat and cole slaw were not date marked with a required date of disposal. With violations not corrected during the inspection Viro's Italian Bakery was given a "needs improvement" rating.
In a statement, Viros Real Italian Bakery said, "Unfortunately at the time of inspection, some of our refrigerated cases were not performing at peak efficiency. The HVAC service provider was called after we were informed of this and the problem was remedied before the end of the business day."
Two weeks ago, we told you about Sarku Japan on North Oracle Road receiving a provisional rating. The pima county health department has confirmed Sarku Japan passed re-inspection.
In a statement Sarku Japan management said, "Sarku Japan takes these health violation findings very seriously. Our store supervisor has been on site to ensure all corrections have been made and to step up training on our crew members to ensure these types of violations won't be repeated."
Restaurants awarded "excellent" ratings include Amarsi Ristorante, on north Rancho Vistoso, Fortune Cookie restaurant, on West Silverbell and Marcos Pizza on East Golf Links.
