TUCSON - On this week's Kitchen Cops, Pima County Health Department inspectors uncovered a fast food restaurant with a rodent problem, and another using a very unique method of thawing food.
We start with a Japanese restaurant that scored high during an inspection, but in this case it was a high number of violations.
Shogun Restaurant received six critical and six non-critical violations. Raw seafood and chicken were found thawing in buckets of standing water, health inspector reports state. Several kitchen items were observed with food debris on them. Grease and food debris were found on tables, shelving and equipment. Food in a reach-in refrigerator was tested above the required maximum 41 degrees: raw salmon at 47 degrees, cooked shrimp at 62 degrees.
With more than five critical violations, Shogun Restaurant, on North Oracle was given a "Provisional" rating.
Carl's Jr. on East Speedway received one critical violation: a dead mouse was discovered in a storage area. Mouse droppings were also found on the floor, and a hole was also found in one of the walls. That same wall had peeling paint and damage to the wall's molding.
The critical violation was not corrected during the inspection, earning Carl's Jr. on East Speedway a "Needs Improvement" rating.
Last week, News 4 Tucson's Sean Mooney told you about "El Buen Pastor" mobile restaurant receiving a "Needs Improvement" rating. The Pima County Health Department has confirmed "El Buen Pastor" passed re-inspection.
Restaurants recognized for "Excellent" ratings this week include: O'Malley's on Fourth Avenue, Zona 78, on River, and Olive Garden on North Oracle.
