Kitchen Cops: Restaurants bugged by pests

TUCSON - This week Kitchen Cops features two restaurants that have been bugged by unwanted creatures that love to make kitchens their home.

Black Jack Pizza, at 8554 E. Broadway, received four critical violations. The inspection report cites a severe rodent infestation within the facility.

Droppings were observed on equipment, food containers and on base boards. Several plastic containers had thick black dirt buildup and were also encrusted with food debris. The inspector noted that business is under new ownership and was advised to immediately address rodent problem.

With violations not corrected during the inspection Black Jack Pizza, was given a "Needs Improvement" rating.

The Pima County Health Department has confirmed that on March 28th Black Jack Pizza, at 8554 E. Broadway, was again evaluated and passed re-inspection on March 28th.

In a statement, management from Black Jack Pizza said, "We here at Black Jack are striving to create a cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable environment for our customers and employees alike."

Trident Grill, at 2033 E. Speedway, received four critical violations. Flies were observed in kitchen's prep area. Pests must be minimized by effective means. An employee handled raw meat and did not wash his hands before then plating cooked foods.

With violations not corrected with the inspector on site, Trident Grill, was given a "Needs Improvement" rating.

Trident Grill management issued a statement saying, "Trident Grill has a long history of excellent reviews. Corrections have been completed."

Restaurants awarded "Excellent" ratings include, Pappoules Foothills Mall, at 7475 N. La Cholla, Monsoon's Tap & Grill, at 6781 N. Thornydale and Famous Dave's Restaurant, at 4565 N. Oracle.
