Kitchen Cops: Restaurant serves up wrong kind of dirty rice

TUCSON - Pima County Health Inspectors delivered a buffet of "Provisional" ratings.

Marisco's Chihuahua, at 2902 E. 22nd street, received seven critical violations. The inspector conducting the evaluation observed an employee mopping a floor wearing gloves, removing them, then blowing on his hands and putting on a new pair of gloves. The man then began preparing raw shrimp. Another employee was seen eating a plate of food at a prep table as food for customers was being prepared. With seven critical violations, Marisco's Chihuahua, was given a "Provisional" rating.

Denny's, at 3702 E. Irvington, received seven critical violations. A cook was observed cracking raw eggs and then preparing food for customers without changing gloves. Several dishes and utensils stored as clean had food debris on them. Food items in refrigeration units tested above the required maximum 41 degrees, with egg whites temped at 86 degrees, raw eggs at 51 degrees and turkey bacon tested at 49 degrees. With seven critical violations, Denny's, was given a "Provisional" rating.

Kung Fu Noodle, at 3122 N. Campbell, received nine critical violations. A large raw pot roast, in a plastic container, was left at room temperature to thaw overnight. Food must be thawed under refrigeration, running water or in a microwave. A cook was observed cracking eggs, touching his face and drinking from an open container, without washing his hands and changing gloves. Rice was stored in bowls that were soiled inside and out. Several kitchen items were encrusted with food debris. With nine critical violations, Kung Fu Noodle, was given a "Provisional" rating.

Two week's we told you about Jun Dynasty, at 2933 E.Grant, receiving a"Provisional" rating. The Pima County Health Department has confirmed that Jun Dynasty passed re-inspection.

Restaurants awarded excellent ratings include, Oregano's, at 100 W. Orange Grove, El Charro Café, at 6910 E. Sunrise Dr., Cattletown Steakhouse/Saloon, at 3141 E. Drexel Rd. And Sir Veza's Taco Garage, at 220 W. Wetmore.
