Kitchen Cops: Mouse in the house at local pizza shop

TUCSON - The Monsoon may cool things down here in Tucson but it's the temperatures in restaurant kitchens that concern Pima County Health Inspectors, just one item on the list this week.

Arizona Pizza Company, at 5855 E. Broadway, received three critical violations. Mouse droppings were found in dry storage areas and behind equipment. Non critical violations cited a severely damaged walk-in floor and areas underneath and behind equipment in need of cleaning. With violations not corrected during the inspection, Arizona Pizza Company, was given a "Needs Improvement" rating.

Arizona Pizza Company management responded to the report by saying, "We are sorry for this. All violations on the health reports have been taken care off. Please remember, we have had a great track record of health inspections going on 11 years since this location opened. We hope we can have this followed up, with KVOA, to show our commitment for correction to the public. We will continue to strive for success."

Neo Malaysian Kitchen, at 6133 E. Broadway, received four critical violations. Several refrigerated food items tested above the required maximum 41 degrees, with sprouts at 62 degrees, octopus at 48 degrees and spicy crab at 48 degrees. Many cutting boards were very dirty and had grime on them. With all violations not corrected with the inspector on site, Neo Malaysian Kitchen, was given a "Needs Improvement" rating.

The Pima County Health Department has confirmed that a reinspection was conducted on July 9 and Neo Malaysian Kitchen passed.

Neo management issued a statement saying, "We are grateful that the vigilance of Pima County Health identified shortcomings which we rectified and are pleased to announce that we have passed re-inspection on 07/09/2014. We apologize for any oversight and wish to assure our patrons that we will continue to work hard at meeting the standards set by Pima County Health.

Two week's ago we told you about 5 Points Market and Restaurant, 757 S. Stone Ave. and Augustin Kitchen, at 100 S. Avenida del Convento, receiving "Provisional" ratings. The Pima County Health Department has confirmed that both establishments passed reinspection.

Restaurants awarded "Excellent" ratings include, El Charro Restaurant, at 311 N. Court Ave., Dickey's Barbeque Pit, at 7850 N. Oracle and Grumpy's Grill, at 2960 W. Ina Rd.
