TUCSON - Pima County Health Inspectors doing their own version of holiday shopping, looking for eateries not checking their lists when it comes to keeping the food they serve safe.
Featured establishments this week include restaurants on wheels in need of a lesson in glove management.
Feature On The Fly, a mobile restaurant, received two critical violations. The person in charge, while wearing gloves, handled pipes to fix a leak and then handled a stick of butter wearing the same gloves. There was also no running water in the mobile unit. A water source must meet the demands of the establishment. With violations not corrected during the inspection, Feature On The Fly, Was given a "Needs Improvement" rating.
Christo, a mobile restaurant, received three critical violations. Food employees were observed changing gloves without first washing their hands. The plumbing system in the unit was determined to be in "disrepair" and there was no running water to the hand sink at the time of the inspection. The inspector also noted the sink was filled with clutter. An employee was seen opening a box with a spatula and then using the utensil to cook gyro meat. With violations not corrected with the inspector on site, Christo, was given a "Needs Improvement" rating.
Last week we told you about Xoom Juice, at 2739 E. Speedway, receiving a "Needs Improvement" rating. After failing another inspection, the Pima County Health Department has confirmed that Xoom Juice, passed re-inspection on December 9th.
Two weeks ago we reported that Schlotzsky's Deli, at 3720 E. Valencia, was given a "Needs Improvement" rating. The Pima County Health Department has confirmed that Schlotzky's Deli, passed reinspection.
Restaurant's awarded excellent ratings include, Silver Saddle Steak House, at 310 E. Benson Hwy., Stella Java, mobile restaurant and Viva Burrito Co., at 8555 E. Broadway.
