TUCSON - Tucson may now be bracing for triple digits but Pima County Health Inspectors always keep the heat on local restaurants that serve you food.
Rigo's Mexican Restaurant, at 2527 S. 4th Avenue, received five critical violations. All foods in a walk-in cooler tested above the required minimum 41degrees, with green chili at 51-degrees, red chili at 46 degrees and refried beans at over 70-degrees. Raw meat was found incorrectly stored over ready to eat food. Several employees were observed not properly washing their hands. With five critical violations not corrected during the inspection, Rigo's Mexican Restaurant was given a "Provisional" rating.
Las Cuatas Restaurant, at 1501 W. St. Mary's Rd., received two critical and five non-critical violations. Non-critical citings included the discovery of a disconnected hot water line to a hand washing sink and a 3-compartment sink that drained directly to a sewer line. Water was also observed leaking onto the floor from a hole in a drain line. The restaurant has thirty days to correct all non-critical violations. Refried beans tested at 51 degrees and cooked rice at 45 degrees. Stored food items tested at over 41degrees are critical violations. With all critical violations corrected with the inspector on site Las Cuatas Restaurant was given a "Good" rating.
In a statement Las Cuatas Management said, "Action was taken, all non-critical violations have been corrected. Las Cuatas received a "Good" Rating at the time of the inspection."
Restaurants awarded "Excellent" ratings include, Leo's Mexican Restaurant, at 5114 E. Speedway, Sun City Cafe, at 1555 E. Rancho Vistoso and Los Betos at 32 N. Campbell.
