TUCSON - Some local restaurant employees needed a lesson in hygiene as one restaurant known for its vegetarian spoonfuls got a scoop full of violations from the Pima County Health Department.
Lovin' Spoonfuls, at 2990 N. Campbell Ave., received four critical and one non-critical violations. A waitress was observed scraping dirty dishes and then prepared food-to-go without first washing her hands. Several kitchen items were observed with food debris on them, including a food slicer, scoops, tongs and serving spoons. A cook was also seen cooking unwashed food. With all violations corrected during the inspection Lovin' Spoonfuls was given a "Good" rating.
Owner Peg Raisglid said, "Since the time that we've been opened, almost eight years now, we've consistently received E's for Excellent on our ratings from the Pima County Health Department. Although I am certainly not happy to have received a "Good" for this last inspection, it just shows that the Health Department does serve a valuable function in helping to point out issues that may have otherwise slipped by unnoticed, and I'd like to thank them for that - AND, all issues have been addressed and corrected.
Choice Greens, at 2829 E. Speedway, received four critical and two non-critical violations. Several food items were stored above the maximum 41 degrees with sliced turkey at 54-degrees and chicken at 52-degrees. Several salad dressings were tested at over 50-degrees. A dishwasher was observed wiping his mouth while unloading dishes. An excessive amount of equipment and utensils stored as clean had dirt and food debris stuck to them. With all violations corrected during the inspection Choice Greens was given a "Good" rating.
Choice Greens responded by saying, "We pride ourselves on our cleanliness and fresh product, so we were obviously disappointed with the issues. All noted violations were immediately corrected while the inspector was present and we are closely monitoring all aspects of our operation to ensure full compliance."
Restaurants awarded excellent ratings this week include Sullivan's Steak House at 1785 East River Rd., Daisy Mae's Steakhouse at 2735 W. Anklam Rd., and Union Public House at 4340 N. Campbell Ave.
