TUCSON - Among the violations cited by Pima County Health Inspectors this week, a cook at a local mexican restaurant who should not have "thrown in the towel", when serving up an order of tacos.
La Parilla Suiza, at 2720 N. Oracle Rd., received eight critical and five non-critical violations. A cook wiped his spatula on a soiled rag and continued to use it to serve tacos. The cook also placed raw meat on the grill, then wiped his gloved hands on a dish towel and continued to cook. Once gloves become contaminated they must be removed and the person's hands washed. Several refrigerated items tested above the maximum 41 degrees, with chicken nuggets at 70 degrees, cheese at 57 degrees and raw beef temped at 59 degrees. Pots, pans and a mixer were encrusted with food debris. The inspector also noted that the facility was in need of a "deep cleaning" throughout. With eight critical violations, La Parilla Suiza, was given a "Provisional" rating.
Mosaic Cafe Dos, at 7350 N. La Cholla, received six critical violations. An employee threw away egg shells and then handled clean utensils without first washing their hands. Other staff members were seen washing their hands with gloves on. Hands must be washed and gloves changed between tasks. An employee was observed eating a burrito at a prep table with food cooling on it. Employees must only eat in designated areas. With six critical violations, Mosaic Cafe Dos, was given a "Provisional" rating.
Last week we told you about Empalme Mexican Food, at 1104 S. Wilmot Rd., receiving a "Needs Improvement" rating. The Pima County Health Department has confirmed that Empalme Mexican Food, passed reinspection.
Restaurants awarded "Excellent" ratings include, Barrio Brewing, at 800 E. 16th St., Sue's Fish & Chips, at 2500 S. 4th Ave. and The Keg Steakhouse & Bar, at 12005 N. Oracle.
