TUCSON - The wait is over. Former University of Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey has been selected by the Chicago Bears in the 4th round of the NFL Draft.
Carey earned All-American status during his time with the Wildcats after leading the nation in rushing as a sophomore with 1,929 yards. He rushed for 1,885 last season as a junior. He will join former UofA star Lance Briggs in Chicago. Arizona State rival Will Sutton was also selected by the Bears in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Carey was the 11th running back selected in the NFL Draft. 2014 was widely considered a year where running backs would slide due to team needs. Former Washington Husky Bishop Sankey was the first running back taken, but didn't hear his name called until the 54th pick by Tennessee. Carey was the first University of Arizona player selected, making the Wildcats the last team in the Pac-12 to earn a draft pick.
Carey tells News 4 Tucson he will report to Chicago next week to begin working toward a back-up role for Pro Bowl running back Matt Forte.
We will have much more with Ka'Deem Carey, his family and friends during our 5:30 and 10 newscasts.
