PHOENIX - The Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal is speaking out about an administrative law judge's decision that the Mexican-American Studies program at Tucson Unified School District is in violation of a law.
Arizona's superintendent says "I was very pleased to receive Judge Kowal's decision today affirming the ruling that I made on June 15 that TUSD's Mexican American Studies Program was in violation of A.R.S. § 15-112."
He says that in his role as State Superintendent of Public Instruction, he has a legal responsibility to uphold the law.
If the district can't prove the classes are in compliance, it could lose $15 million in state funding.
